Advanced Dry Eye Treatment

Personalized, Medical-Grade Relief at Huntley Eye Care

What is Dry Eye?

Dry Eye Syndrome is a common condition that occurs when your eyes don't produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. Tears are essential for maintaining clear vision and keeping the surface of the eye smooth and comfortable.

When the tear film becomes unstable, it can lead to irritation, inflammation, and even damage to the eye's surface if left untreated.

Common Symptoms

  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Gritty or sandy feeling
  • Redness
  • Blurry or fluctuatin vision
  • Excessive tearing (yes - watery eyes can be dry eye!)
  • Light sensitivity
  • Eye fatigue, especially with screen use

What Causes Dry Eye?

Dry eye can be caused by several factors, including:

  • Aging
  • Increased screen time (reduced blinking)
  • Environmental factors (wind, dry air, air)
  • Contact lens wear
  • Certain medications
  • Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) - one of the most common causes

MGD occurs when the oil glands in your eyelids become blocked or don't function properly, leading to faster tear evaporation.

Treatment Options

We offer a range of treatments based on the severity and cause of your dry eye.

Traditional Treatments

  • Artificial tears and lubrication eye drops
  • Prescription eye drops
  • Warm compresses and eyelid hygiene
  • Punctal plugs (to help retain tears)

These treatments can provide relief, but many patients need more advanced solutions to treat the root cause. While these treatments can help manage symptoms, they may not fully address the root cause - especially in moderate to severe cases.

Advanced In-Office Treatments

Radiofrequency (RF) Therapy

Radiofrequency (RF) is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that used contolled heat to improve the function of your oil glands.

Benefits of RF:

  • Stimulates meibomian glands
  • Improves oil production in your tear film
  • Reduces tear evaporation
  • Enhances overall eye comfort
  • Can also improve eyelid skin health

RF is especially helpful for patients with MGD and can also improve eyelid health and skin quality.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

Intensed Pulsed Light (IPL) is an advanced treatment that uses controlled pulses of light to reduce inflammation and restore normal eyelid function therapy.

Benefits of IPL:

  • Reduces inflammation around the eyes
  • Targets abnormal blood vessels contributing to dry eye
  • Improves meibomian gland function
  • Decreases bacteria and mites (Demodex) on the eyelids
  • Helps stabilize the tear film

IPL is one of the most effective treatments for chronic dry eye and ocular rosacea-related dry eye.
